Interview: The Difficult Decision to Close a Church

Closing a ministry and selling a church property is one of the most difficult experiences a congregation will ever face. The congregation of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) of San Lorenzo decided it was time to sell the church property at 15661 Washington Avenue in San Lorenzo, California, and use the proceeds of the sale to help a number of different organizations.

We spoke with Carrie Osmer, President of the Board at the time, about her experience working with Dutra Cerro Graden (DCG) through the process.

She explains:

“We saw this as an opportunity to minister in a different way and still have a ministry to take the asset we had, sell the building, and use that money to help different organizations that we have always helped throughout the 55 years we were in ministry.”
