DCG Strategies is proud to work with a talented team who prioritizes the needs of our commercial real estate clients and the communities they serve. We’re pleased to officially welcome our newest team member, Sumari Barnes, who joined us in November 2019. Sumari’s new role as project coordinator includes a wide variety of responsibilities, including client intake and services, first-response property management, and working on new ideas and projects that help advance DCG’s mission.
Sumari’s Background In Commercial Real Estate
Sumari comes to the DCG team with invaluable experience, having recently worked with several community development nonprofits in the San Francisco Bay Area. In her previous job, Sumari helped organize educational events and community revitalization strategies for minority and low-income communities. She also worked with church pastors to implement workshops where residents could come together to learn real estate and business skills. With another organization, Sumari also assisted in managing the needs for a transitional housing facility in Oakland. Her unique knowledge and passion for community building aligns perfectly with DCG’s mission to serve our local community-benefit organizations.
At DCG Strategies, Sumari hopes to continue learning as much as possible about the commercial real estate business and how it can help impact the community. She’s also awaiting approval to become a licensed real estate agent, and plans to support DCG’s projects from start to finish. “I’ve always wanted to be a go-to person,” Sumari says, adding that her devotion to learning from a variety of different angles helps give her a broad understanding of the many facets of DCG’s work. The DCG team is encouraging, as well. Sumari appreciates the confidence she’s received from her colleagues so far: “I’ve learned more here in two months than I could possibly imagine. They trust me to be able to be thrown into things even while being new in the field.”
Sumari’s choice to join a Benefit Corporation dedicated to optimizing the impact of community organizations isn’t surprising. She’s been volunteering since the third grade, and describes her passion for service as one of the driving forces in her career. “I’m motivated by who I can impact and who I can help,” she explains. From churches to schools, non-profits, and local government; Sumari looks forward to using her skills and experience to benefit the community.
