Solano Community College District

Solano Community College is a tradition in Solano County. The 192-acre campus, centrally located just off Interstate 80, was completed in 1971 and opened with 5,000 students. Since then, facilities, programs, staff and services have expanded to meet the growing needs of a growing county.

Unique Challenge

Seeking to expand its footprint in Vallejo, California where it already has a thriving satellite campus, Solano Community College (SCC) has been on a quest to acquire land to expand its educational program. After years of searching and unsuccessful attempts to complete a purchase, SCC remained committed to its goal.

Solution Provided

SCC hired DCG to take over the project. Within a month of being engaged, DCG identified a suitable site that was ideally located adjacent to the existing Vallejo Campus. The land brought with it unique complexities since it was previously entitled for residential development and comprised of 13 parcels totaling approximately 6.28 acres.

Due to title complexities, boundary uncertainties, and an adjacent newly built and occupied residential condominium development, DCG needed to navigate multiple challenges and conduct more than normal due-diligence. DCG worked through the complexities of this unique property and successfully closed escrow early. In addition, DCG negotiated for the Seller to make a sizeable donation to SCC foundation.

The acquisition of the site has allowed SCC to expand its educational offerings to the local community by creating a new automotive technician program.
